인디아폴리스 출신의 훵크 그룹으로 70년대에 잠시 활동하며 7인치 싱글만 몇 개 발표했던 밴드. 정규 앨범이 없었기 때문에 이 리이슈는 그들의 모든 곡들을 모은 일종의 앤솔로지이며, 훵카델릭, 어스, 윈드 & 파이어, 그리고 슬라이 앤 더 패밀리스톤의 음악을 좋아한다면 취향에 맞을만한 강력한 훵크와 싸이키, 그리고 몇 개의 발라드가 합쳐진 컬렉션이다. 앨범 커버에는 “Harder than E,W&F, Kooler than Kool & The Gang”이라고 씌여 있다. 현재 절판되어서 아마존에는 400달러에 이 레코드를 판매하는 셀러도 있다.

브라질의 새로운 기타리스트 Fabiano의 데뷔작이자 신작. Now Again에서 두 명의 브라질 음악가와 계약을 했는데 그 중 한 명이 굳이 설명이 필요 없을 거장급 인물 세우 조지이고, 나머지 한 명이 바로 이 기타리스트다. 브라질의 거물 음악가 Airto Moreira가 제작 전반에 참여한 작품이며, 바덴 포웰로 대표되는 브라질 기타의 유산과 정서, 뛰어난 기술이 함께 하는 작품.

이 앨범은 리이슈가 아니라 새로운 영국 밴드의 데뷔작으로 2007년작이다. 장르를 뭐라고 설명하긴 어려운데 Sun Ra의 재즈/훵크에 힙합과 싸이키, 일렉트로닉이 합쳐진 굉장히 복합적인 음악이 담겨 있다.  재즈, 힙합, 훵크, 브레이크비트 등에 관심이 있다면 일단 이 밴드/레코드를 체크하시길.

JJ Whitfield의 또다른 이름 Karl Hector의 그룹의 2013년 작품. 중동의 그루브, 아프리칸 비트, 재즈, 싸이키, 그리고 클라우트 록이 공존하는, 그래서 글로는 설명하기 힘든 음악. 그러나 훵크/재즈 혹은 클라우트 록 팬들은 체크해야할 작품.

잠비아 록, Zamrock의 대표작 중 하나. Proto-Punk/ Garage로 분류를 하는, 기타리스트 Paul Ngozi가 이끄는 이 밴드의 데뷔작. 굉장히 희귀한 이들의 7인치에서 발췌한 4곡이 담긴 보너스 레코드가 한 장 더 있는 리이슈 초판/한정반이다.

거의 알려지지 않았으나 뒤늦게 발견된 싸이키/훵크/재즈의 알려지지 않은 거성. 리이슈되었으나 절판된 앨범은 물론 미공개 곡까지 모두 포함한 앤솔로지로 재즈/훵크/싸이키 팬들에게 추천하는 작품.

“some of the rarest, and best, examples of fuzzy, funky Brazilian psychedelia came out as promo-only 7" records on these labels."라고 씌여 있는데 일단 오리지널은 물론이고 음원으로도 찾기 거의 힘든 곡들을 모아 놓은 컴필레이션. 그러니까 알만한 곡도, 뻔한 곡도 없어서 트랙리스트만 봐서는 짐작하기는 음악 - 67년~76년 사이 브라질에서 만들어진 “트로피칼리아 싸이키델릭”을 모아 놓았음. 다운로드 쿠폰 포함.  

Whitefield Brothers/ Earthology (2LP)        33,000

Poets of Rhythm이라는 (독일 출신이지만 독일 밴드라고는 그 누구도 짐작하기 힘든 음악을 만드는) 훵크 밴드를 예전에 한 번 소개한 적이 있었는데 (Daptone에서 발매 - 매장에 바이닐 재고가 아직 있습니다.) 이 밴드는 그 주역들이 새롭게 결성한 밴드. "싸이키델릭 훵크 마스터피스" 커버 앞에 이렇게 자신 있게 표기해 놨는데 실제로 음악을 들으면 이 문구에 수긍하게 된다. 2010년에 발표한 이들의 두번째 작품으로 Edan, Mr. Lif, Bajka, Percee P, MED 그리고 Antibalas, Dap Kings, El Michels Affair의 멤버들도 참여했다. (AKA 초호화 세션)  Lewis Heriz의 디자인도 훌륭함.

Zamrock의 대표적인 명반. Garage-Pysch-Funk가 공존하는 형태이며. 거라지 록에 훵크 그루브를 첨가했다고 보면 이해가 쉬울 듯. 75년도에 나온 이들의 세번째 작품이며 Mojo의 앨범 리뷰에는 “제임스 브라운, 롤링 스톤스, 딥 퍼플”이 등장한다.

Stones Throw + Madlib(Madlbi Invazion)/J Dilla (Pay Jay) - New Arrival
*서부의 대표적인 힙합/소울 (때때로 레게와 팝음악도 다루는) 레이블 스톤스 스로우의 클래식들과 최근 발표된 새앨범들, 그리고 스톤스스로우의 대표적 음악가였던 매드립과 제이딜라의 레이블에서 나온 작품들입니다. Knxwledge "Hud Dreems"은 의심의 여지가 없는 "올해의 데뷔작" 중 하나이며, 올해 가장 훌륭한 소울/훵크 앨범 중 하나로 남을 턱시도의 테잎과 레코드도 입고되었습니다. 
1달 가량 품절되어 있었던 스톤스스로우의 클래식들을 담은 카세트 테잎도 재입고되었습니다.

슬라이 앤 더 패밀리스톤의 리더 슬라이 스톤의 솔로/프로듀싱작. 슬라이 앤 더 패밀리스톤의 인기가 정점에 오를 무렵 슬라이 스톤은 자신의 레이블을 만들고 좀 더 미니멀한 일렉트로닉 훵크를 담아 7인치 시리즈로 내놓게 되는데 주요 멤버는 패밀리 스톤에서 중요한 역할을 했던 리틀 시스터 (벳 스톤), Stax에서도 앨범을 냈던 조 힉스 같은 음악가들. 7인치로만 나왔기 때문에 이 곡들이 훗날 시디/음원으로 리이슈가 되지 않았는데, 45년이 흐른 후 라잇인더애틱에서 당시 발표된 싱글과 레이블 아카이브에 있던 미공개곡들을 모아 한 장의 앨범으로 정리를 했다. 오리지널 테잎으로 만든 좋은 사운드에 멋진 그루브가 함께 하는 작품.

"신에게 디스코가 존재했더라면, 아마도 디제이는 이 캘리포니아 가스펠-소울 그룹 음악을 틀었을 것이다...."  80년에 제작된 이 환상적인 가스펠-소울-디스코 레코드는 일반에게 판매되지 않고, 오로지 이들의 (그리 길지 않았던) 투어 현장에서만 판매되었던 작품. 어느날, 팬들만 갖고 있었던 이 레코드 중 한 장이 레코드 가게에 팔려 나갔고, 30여년이 지난 이후에야 그 한 장의 레코드가 컬렉터에 의해 발견되면서 이 레코드가 세상 밖으로 나올 수 있었다. 레이블 Light In The Attic은 당시 밴드 멤버들을 찾아냈고, 인터뷰했으며, 음원은 리마스터링을 거쳤고, 사상 처음으로 발매된 이 레코드는 많은 이들에게 뒤늦은 사랑을 받고 있다.

두 장의 뛰어난 앨범을 발표했으나 큰 주목을 받지 못하고 음악계를 떠난 그녀는 무대에 서는 것도, 뮤직 비즈니스도 좋아하지 않았다고 한다. 빌리 홀리데이만큼이나 독특하고 매력적인 목소리를 지녔고 밥 딜런 같은 가수들이 애정을 표현했지만, 이 포크/블루스 가수이자 밴조 연주가의 앨범에 성공은 따라주지 못했다. 오랫동안 고가로 거래되었기에 그녀의 음악은 종종 ‘컬트’라고 얘기되어 왔지만, 음악이 재발굴(매)된 이후 쏟아진 찬사와 호평을 생각하면 그녀의 음악은 확실히 당대에 과소평가된 것이 확실하다. 비극적인 삶을 살다 93년에 세상을 떠나갔기에 동시대 사람들조차 그녀의 음악을 무대에서 만날 기회가 없었다. 1970/71년에 녹음된 이 두번째 작품은 구체적인 계획과 함께 실행된 유일한 스튜디오 앨범으로 밥 딜런과 마일스 데이비스와 함께 했던 하비 브룩스가 참여 했으며, “Katie Cruel”, “, “One Night of Love”, “Take Me”, “Same Old Man” 등이 수록되어 있다. 매체들의 평점은 굳이 언급하지 않아도 될 것 같다.

슬라이 앤 더 패밀리스톤의 리더 슬라이 스톤의 솔로/프로듀싱작. 슬라이 앤 더 패밀리스톤의 인기가 정점에 오를 무렵 슬라이 스톤은 자신의 레이블을 만들고 좀 더 미니멀한 일렉트로닉 훵크를 담아 7인치 시리즈로 내놓게 되는데 주요 멤버는 패밀리 스톤에서 중요한 역할을 했던 리틀 시스터 (벳 스톤), Stax에서도 앨범을 냈던 조 힉스 같은 음악가들. 7인치로만 나왔기 때문에 이 곡들이 훗날 시디/음원으로 리이슈가 되지 않았는데, 45년이 흐른 후 라잇인더애틱에서 당시 발표된 싱글과 레이블 아카이브에 있던 미공개곡들을 모아 한 장의 앨범으로 정리를 했다. 오리지널 테잎으로 만든 좋은 사운드에 멋진 그루브가 함께 하는 작품.

"신에게 디스코가 존재했더라면, 아마도 디제이는 이 캘리포니아 가스펠-소울 그룹 음악을 틀었을 것이다...."  80년에 제작된 이 환상적인 가스펠-소울-디스코 레코드는 일반에게 판매되지 않고, 오로지 이들의 (그리 길지 않았던) 투어 현장에서만 판매되었던 작품. 어느날, 팬들만 갖고 있었던 이 레코드 중 한 장이 레코드 가게에 팔려 나갔고, 30여년이 지난 이후에야 그 한 장의 레코드가 컬렉터에 의해 발견되면서 이 레코드가 세상 밖으로 나올 수 있었다. 레이블 Light In The Attic은 당시 밴드 멤버들을 찾아냈고, 인터뷰했으며, 음원은 리마스터링을 거쳤고, 사상 처음으로 발매된 이 레코드는 많은 이들에게 뒤늦은 사랑을 받고 있다.
